Columns with Continuous Symmetry

If the column has both axial-translation and rotation symmetry, than the column is a cylinder with symmetry group $\Gamma$ .Continuous symmetries come in threetypes: rotations about the column axis (columns of revolution), translationsalong the column axis (fluted columns), or corkscrew symmetries which are a mixture of the two (spiral columns).
