(1) Texture of the predominant sense of touch Textures are roughly categorized into the following two kinds. As seen in the figures below, one is a type of the predominant sense of touch which can be actually ascertained by touching. Another is a type which gives us visually peculiar feelings of unevenness and roughness, though a surface is smooth like a screen tone in Figure 653. In other words, this is a texture of the sight predominant type. Because the texture of the former type is very direct,
blind people will understand it by touching it. Once the textures are taken
and printed as a photograph, the reality of the textures recognized by
touching are lost as shown in the illustrations inserted below. Recently,
various materials, including paper, metals, and others, have been manufactured
with many ideas to enjoy the sense of touch of the skin of these surfaces.
Especially there are many kinds of textures in clothes and interior architectural
materials.
