The sculptures shown on this page were created in association with my forthcoming book. In this book, I develop a mathematical theory of design, in which the design-process is formalized in terms of hierarchies of groups. A central aspect of the theory is a group-theoretic formalization of aesthetic content and its relation to the successive decisions of the artist. In order to develop this theory, I had to carefully observe my own design decisions, for example, when creating these sculptures. I soon realized that one had to invent a new class of mathematical groups in order to describe the layering of decisions in the design-object. This class of groups is described in detail the book. You can see enlarged views of my sculptures by clicking on them.
