1. Introduction

The task I set for the present article is not to analyse in general or abstract terms the concept we will deal with, but instead to emphasise its meaning in Klee’s thought, by observing one of his paintings, discussing its possible genesis and making explicit some mathematical underlaying concepts. In doing so I apply the same investigative technique Klee used to observe nature, its objects and especially its processes.

However, a few general introductory words are necessary, both to frame the problem I will discuss, and to resume the results on the same subject which I already presented elsewhere. The introduction is devoted to this task.
