BEING FAITHFUL
The loose reins down over her head
my quarter horse munches the moments
of greenness between the smooth stones
that protrude at this elevation.
From here the horizon stretches
out under a cumulus blue sky.
Scattered over the flat hillside
are thousands of gray flint slivers
cleaved by one stone striking another
and fracturing a jagged edge
of facets that catches the sun
with dazzling sharp shadowed reflections.
In the sudden glint of each moment
I search for one finished arrowhead.
